If you’re anything like me, the right coffee shop can shift your entire mood and workflow. The energy, the lighting, the playlists, the people watching, and of course, the coffee: every detail matters.
As the founder of The Howard Method, I’ve spent many days at coffee shops across Houston, laptop open and a lavender oat milk latte in hand. Depending on what kind of workday I’m trying to have, there’s always a coffee shop that fits.
Here are my top five Houston coffee shop picks, each with their own rhythm and vibe. I highly recommend you bookmark this list for your next writing session, Zoom marathon, creative reset, or study day.

Brass Tacks – East Downtown
612 Live Oak St., Houston, TX 77003
This one’s a classic and TikTok famous (IYKYK). Brass Tacks just gets it. There’s room to spread out, the playlists don’t distract, you can set up on the patio, and the back booths feel like a secret work zone. Plus, the espresso is solid and the food menu keeps you fueled if you stay a while. Perfect for when you need to lock in and knock out a few hours of deep work or studying.

MAVEN Coffee + Cocktails – Sawyer Yards/Washington Avenue
1501 Silver St. Bldg. B, Houston, TX 77007
I love Maven’s Silver Street location because it’s light-filled and beautifully minimal. Located inside the creative and artsy Sawyer Yards campus, it’s where caffeine meets quiet luxury. I love this one for client catch-ups or creative writing sprints. The vibe inspires focus and creativity. They offer a full food menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And if you stay late? They serve cocktails, too. A win-win.

Campesino Coffee House – Montrose
2602 Waugh Dr., Houston, TX 77006
Campesino feels like home. It’s cozy, artsy, and full of charm. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you can really get into your flow, whether you’re working or studying. There’s a strong sense of community here, and I always end up striking up a conversation with the barista. And their horchata latte? Game changer.

New Heights Coffee Roasters/Asch Building – The Heights/Studewood
825 Studewood St., Houston, TX 77007
Tucked inside a beautifully restored space in The Heights, the New Heights Coffee Roasters cafe at the Asch Building is a hidden gem. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love the Asch Building, and the bonus of a perfectly simple iced vanilla latte is the cherry on top. The environment is inviting and chill, but there’s enough buzz to keep you energized and focused. It’s ideal for those days when you want to work quietly in a beautiful setting and maybe even snag a vintage shirt or jeans from Tadaima during a break.

Segundo Coffee Lab – East End/Second Ward
711 Milby St. #35, Houston, TX 77023
This is where the magic happens. I’ve spent many days at Segundo Coffee Lab in the East End, especially in the early days of The Howard Method when I was working with Chris Robinson of Shop Never Closed to dream up my brand’s look and feel. This space is a creative’s dream. The Latina-owned coffee shop is located inside the industrial and community-minded Ironworks building, which also features El Segundo Swim Club.
